Access to HE

Access to Higher Education courses are for adults who are aiming for Higher Education, but who may not possess the necessary entry qualifications or may not have studied for some time. The programme is designed to qualify you for entry to Higher Education and/or prepare you for that level of study. It leads to a nationally recognised Access Diploma. Credits obtained on the programme are accepted by any University in the country. We enjoy close links with Universities in the area and the reputation of the programme is very high. With guidance from the programme tutors, you may choose to undertake the full programme over 1 or 2 years. The minimum age for entry to the programme is 19.

The following Access to HE Pathways are available:-

Access to HE Diploma in:

Teaching & Humanities
Social Work & Social Science
Nursing and Midwifery
Biological & Health Sciences

Each pathway comprises a range of interesting subjects. Individual Option information sheets are available from Student Services.

Applicants for the Teaching & Humanities, Social Work & Social Science and Nursing and Midwifery pathways should possess 4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and maths, and Science for those intending to pursue a career in the Primary School sector (please discuss with advising tutor). Please note: For some HE courses there may be specific requirements in addition to the Diploma Access QAA award.

For entry to the Biological & Health Sciences route, there is an expectancy that you will have 4 GCSE's at grade C or above (including a science - preferably Human Biology or similar). There may be some flexibilty however, and each application is considered on its own merit. A BTEC First Diploma or an Access to Further Education qualification is also acceptable if science was studied & achieved. Applicants without a science background, but with at least 5 GCSE's of C Grade or above may be considered.

Entry to the Access to HE Pathways programme is subject to a pre-enrolment interview and diagnostic assessment. For further details ring 01744 623253 or e-mail
