Free Functional Skills - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 English

These are nationally recognised qualification designed to meet the needs of the world of work. They are particularly suitable for those people in employment wishing to move on or up, and for those looking for employment. This qualification provides young people and adults with the practical skills they need to succeed in further learning, employment and the wider society. Also, if you develop your skills in English you are more likely to achieve your main qualification if studying on other programmes and be successful when you progress to the next level of your course or into employment.
What will I learn?
These courses follow the national curriculum for adults and are divided into levels from Entry Level One up to Level Two.
Level 1 and 2
Students will cover a range of skills: reading, writing and speaking & listening skills.
Students will cover a range of skills within three units:
Unit 1: Reading and Understanding
Unit 2: Speaking and Listening
Unit 3: Writing
What are the entry requirements?
The programme is open to anyone over the age of 16 years and is particularly suitable for adults returning to work, education or training.
There are no formal entry requirements but you will attend an initial induction which will include an initial assessment and an informal chat that will provide guidance to place you on the correct course.
How will I be assessed?
Level 1 & 2
Students will take an examination that is externally set and marked.
Students will take examinations that are teacher marked and externally moderated.
Progression through to GCSE English is possible.
