Chaplaincy
Here at St Helens College, we have a Multifaith Chaplaincy. Not to get too technical, let us explain what that means…
Multifaith talks about the way that people, who have different beliefs to one another, should relate to each other. At no time are we saying that all faiths are the same - they aren’t! At no time are we saying that we should all agree - we don’t! What we are saying is that we should get on as friends despite our differences of opinion about faith. We do it about other things don’t we - football teams, rugby teams, musical styles, so why not faith? It is true to say that all of our Chaplains are Christians but we regularly have guests in College who represent other faith groups. We will happily arrange for you to meet with someone of a different faith and will direct you to places of worship of faith communities. We are here to support and represent people of ‘All Faiths And None’ - which basically means that we will support you regardless of your beliefs!
A chaplain is not here to convert you to their way of thinking, but rather to support you. We provide care and support for any pastoral and academic issues that you may be facing. We will listen to you, chat with you, have a brew with you and be a professional friend for you. We offer tutorial sessions to classes, where you can explore faith in a deeper way. We also support the work of ‘Network’, which is the College’s collection of small groups that meet to explore faith together.
St Helens College Chaplaincy Team is supported by FBFE, the National Council of Faiths and Beliefs in Further Education. You can read about their work by clicking on this link - www.fbfe.org.uk
The Chaplaincy Team is made up of three Chaplains currently. The full time Lead Chaplain is Paul Johnson, Craig Lawrenson is a volunteer Associate Chaplain and Frank Hinds is a volunteer Associate Chaplain.
