Wetherby - Students learningWetherby Building Systems Ltd, the UK's market leader in the manufacture and distribution of a wide range of external wall insulation (EWI) systems, has generously donated £25k worth of crucial rendering materials to St Helens College’s plastering department.

The materials, including 190 tubs of 20kg expensive mineral render, will be used to develop the students’ skills and knowledge of working with top of the range supplies in the industry.

Curriculum Leader, Scott Houghton, commented, “This kind donation facilitates a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with the latest industry materials in our specialist construction workshops. This will not only equip them with relevant product knowledge but also a valuable insight into the industry.”

He added, “We value our long standing relationship with Wetherby Building Systems and with a widely known skills shortage in the UK construction sector, it’s great to see them supporting the next generation of building professionals.”

Students based at St Helens College’s STEM Centre, Technology Campus have the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in industry standard facilities including purpose built construction sites and workshops. The breadth of courses available range from bricklaying, wall and floor tiling and plastering to electrical installation and plumbing.

Mark Arnold, Operations Manager at Wetherby, said, “Over the years we have formed a strong and close relationship with St Helens College including the regular employment of a cohort of apprentices, with each individual demonstrating a promising career in the sector. Some have since progressed to full-time employment with us, working in our sales support office, warehouse and technical department.”

He added, “This is an opportunity to not only support and work with St Helens College, but enable students to familiarise themselves with the latest products and market leading developments in the sector.”

Wetherby’s insulated render systems offer environmentally sympathetic external façade solutions that have been successfully installed on many domestic refurbishment projects, new build schemes, commercial buildings and educational establishments for over 20 years.
