St Helens College is celebrating achieving a fantastic overall apprentice success rate of 72% for 2019/2020, which is 7% above the national average for the College's qualification portfolio.

The College is extremely proud of this result, despite the challenges presented by COVID-19. Thanks to collaborative working with employers across the Liverpool City Region and surrounding areas, the College has worked hard to continue to help meet the demands of both employers and the current job market.

There is no doubt that this year has been extremely difficult for businesses across the UK, with lockdown and the focus on working from home making it particularly challenging for businesses to recruit a new apprentice.

Apprenticeships will continue to play a key role in the recovery and growth of the economy after the impact of COVID-19. To help support employers to continue to recruit apprentices, the Government introduced an incentive payment in August 2020, where employers who hire an apprentice before 31st March 2021 can receive an incentive payment of up to £2,000.

St Helens College will be launching an initiative, starting January 2021, with the goal of recruiting many apprentices in the run up to National Apprenticeship Week. The aim of this campaign is to continue to help support local businesses, encourage employers to take advantage of the current incentive payments and promote the benefits of apprenticeships to both learners and employers across the region.
