Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This nationally recognised qualification is aimed at heating engineers, who wish to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to install heat pumps systems within the Building Services Engineering (BSE) renewable sector.

This course is ideal for those who are:

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has various start dates throughout the year and will take three days to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Langtree Centre, St Helens WA9 1AR.

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • Health and safety risks and safe systems of work associated with air source heat pump systems
  • Regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing and commissioning of air source heat pump systems
  • Purpose and operational characteristics of air source heat pump system components
  • Different types of air source heat pump systems and the arrangements for hydraulic emitter circuits
  • Principles of air source heat pump selection and system design
  • Design factors and principles relating to air source heat pump systems
  • Preparatory work required for air source heat pump installations
  • Requirements to install, commission and hand over air source heat pump systems

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed through a multiple-choice question paper and observed performances.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have a Water Regulations/Water Byelaws (WRAS or equivalent) certification.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £500.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have gained the skills, knowledge and competence to install, commission and maintain air source heat pump systems.
