Horticulture is such an exciting, creative and important industry to work in. It plays a vital role in the creation of vegetables, plants and fruit crops which contributes to the quality of our health and the environment we live in.

Whether you want to work in a lab, at a historical site, at a botanical garden or even on a sporting pitch, the possibilities are endless and the earning potential is far reaching!

You will benefit
You will learn from enthusiastic tutors who have a passion for their subject and have held successful horticulture careers, so you can have confidence in knowing that you are being taught by the experts.

Previous students have been involved with the development of Sherdley Park, Mesnes Park, Daresbury Park and Walton Hall Gardens. Work placements like these will allow you to learn hands-on and develop critical transferable skills such as team working, communication and customer service.

You will also have access to onsite resources such as tractors, industry lawnmowers and commercial greenhouses and poly-tunnels.

You will work alongside local employers and industry specialists to gain a real understanding of your chosen career. To help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs, university or additional courses, we will encourage you to enter competitions such as the Southport Flower Show.

Previous students have secured employment with businesses such as St Helens Council, Wigan Council, St Helens RLFC, Liverpool FC, or the Forestry Commission. Others have gone on to work as teachers and even establish their own businesses and nurseries.

With the great outdoors as your classroom, you will work hands-on in local parks, woodlands and gardens. You will have the opportunity to build new network links, friendships, life-long skills and relevant knowledge.
