New Campus ImageBUILDING FOR THE FUTURE!

New Campus set to Transform St Helens Town Centre

The impressive £57 million project to transform the Town Centre Campus of St Helens College is now nearing completion.

On time and under budget the ambitious new build redevelopment project first welcomed students into Phase 1 in September 2009.  Now almost complete and 8 weeks ahead of schedule, Phase 2 has already opened it doors to accommodate Hairdressing, Beauty & Spa Therapy and Sport, Health and Social Care programmes.

The new building proudly provides stimulating well equipped learning environments with exciting state of the art delivery areas.  Light and airy study areas combine with safe and secure ‘user friendly’ environments.  The landscaped ‘social gathering’ areas give this building a real community feel.

Phase 1 offers provision for:

  • Supported Learning
  • Science
  • Catering & Hospitality
  • Travel & Tourism
  • Music
  • Dance and Performing Arts
  • Information Technology
  • Maths & English
  • Modern foreign languages
  • British sign language
Phase 2 offers provision for:
  • Hairdressing & Beauty & Spa Therapy
  • Sports Studies
  • Health and Social Care (including Prince’s Trust volunteers)
  • Professional Studies
  • Floristry and Horticulture
  • Additional Science delivery rooms
  • Functional Skills
  • Student Services/Reception
  • The Senior Leadership Team.

Kate Rolf, Head of Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy
“It truly is an exiting time for the Hairdressing, Beauty and Spa Therapy Industry and especially for all our staff and learners here in St Helens. We have established a world class facility which has moved from a vision to reality”

Victoria Roberts, Head of Health, Sport and Public Services said about the facilities for students and staff
”The Health, Sports and Public Services team are excited and proud to be located in this fantastic new building and are looking forward to welcoming past, current and new students, along with the public, to our excellent new facilities.  With a brand new gym, fitness studio, sports science lab, clinical skills lab and sports therapy suite, along with multimedia facilities to support teaching and learning, the provision will go from strength to strength.”

The early occupancy now allows the demolition of the remaining existing building to start earlier than anticipated, thereby ensuring that all external landscaping is completed around the site in time for enrolment during August 2011.

The existing SmithKline Beecham factory buildings have also been refurbished and the famous ‘clocktower’ building, home of St Helens Business School, will remain as an integral part of the Campus and continue to be one of the town’s leading landmarks.
