Description
This programme provides practical and theoretical training relevant for a career in the animal sector.
What will I learn?
Year One
Animal feeding, Animal accommodation, Animal handling, Principles of zoological animal health and husbandry, Animal welfare and breed development, Animal behaviour and communication, and Animal health
Year Two
Animal Biology, Principles of wildlife populations, ecology and conservation, Animal anatomy and physiology, Undertake an investigate project. Depending upon your personal interests you will be able to choose one of the following optional set of units,
Exotic animal health and husbandry with wildlife management and rehabilitation or
Kennel and cattery management with grooming parlour management.
What are the entry requirements?
You need a minimum of four GCSEs at A* - C grades. Alternatively you should have a level 2 qualification in animal care or other related vocational area, achieving Distinction overall.
How will I be assessed?
All assessments are assignment based and each unit is graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
Future Opportunities?
On successful completion of this programme you will be well placed for direct entry into employment within one of the many careers in the animal sector. The programme is also designed to allow subsidiary diploma students with appropriate grades an opportunity to continue with their academic studies and potentially provide a further opportunity to gain access onto a higher education programme.
