Staff and Students at St Helens College have been working hard to raise money for Willowbrook Hospice, the College’s designated charity.  Fund raising events have included raffles, cake sales and donations from staff as the College has raised £1,650 for the Hospice.

Willowbrook-donation-1St Helens College principal Dame Pat Bacon presents a cheque to Nicky Saunders, Fundraising Lead at Willowbrook HospiceThe presentation of the cheque was made by St Helens College principal Dame Pat Bacon to Nicky Saunders of Willowbrook.

Pat Says “We are delighted to have raised over £1,500 for Willowbrook Hospice and it is a tribute to the hard work both staff and students have undertaken to support the College’s designated charity.  In addition to the donation, the activities have raised awareness of the charity and staff and students now have a greater understanding of Willowbrook Hospice.”

The presentation will be Pat’s last engagement as principal of St Helens College as she retires at the end of the month after dedicating 21 years of her career to the College.

Pat has worked in Further Education for over 30 years and joined St Helens College in 1990.  She has been committed to developing St Helens College and during her time as principal, Pat has overseen many changes including the College’s £60 million Town Centre Campus redevelopment project.

Pat concludes “It has been a privilege to lead St Helens College over the last 10 years.  I am grateful to the Governors who put their trust in me and to staff who have supported me over this challenging period of change.  Whilst I am proud of the legacy of the new build in the Town Centre I hope the legacy of the last 10 years will  also recognise the significant improvement in learner success, the development of the curriculum in response to our target audiences and the many and diverse student and staff successes which we have celebrated.  I wish the College continued success.”
