Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology (Adult Course)
This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.
Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and nail products and equipment.
During the course you will work within a realistic working environment to develop a range of technical skills, enabling you to provide a variety of nail enhancement treatments using different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
This course will start in September and will take one year to complete.
The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA0 1PP.
What will I study?
This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician.
The course covers the following mandatory units:
- Providing manicures and pedicures
- Applying and maintaining nail enhancements
- Maintaining personal health and well-being
- Health and safety
- Client care
You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units, which include:
- Designing and applying nail art
- Air brush designs
- Enhancing nails with electric files
- Promoting products and displaying stock to promote sales
The structure of this qualification provides you with the flexibility to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills required to become a nail technician.
How is it assessed?
This course will be assessed by an assessor, you will undertake practical observation, assignments and exams. You will also produce a portfolio throughout the course.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a level 2 beauty therapy qualification (or equivalent) and/or a successful skills test and interview.
What are the course fees?
The course fee is £3,345.
If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year. There are also a number of payment options including an interest-free payment plan with a monthly direct debit payment.
What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a nail technician. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a nail technician.
Career opportunities as a nail technician exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Commercial nail salon
- Retail concession 'nail bar'
- Self-employed, mobile and home-based settings
You may also wish to progress on to a further qualification, such as the level 4 Diploma in Salon Management.
Additional Information
As part of this programme you are required to wear a uniform. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from a recommended supplier. You may be eligible for financial support to cover these costs.
