This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.
Our training packs are aimed at experienced heating engineers, who wish to update their occupational competence or professional development, extend their range of work and/or gain employment within the renewable sector.
Training Pack 1 – 5 Days
This training pack includes the following qualifications:
- Water Regulations and Byelaws (pre-requisite of below qualification)
- Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems
- Heating Systems Design
There are various start dates throughout the year and the package of qualifications will take 5 days to complete.
The course takes place at St Helens College’s Green Energy Skills Centre, St Helens, WA9 1AR.

You should have an S/NVQ Level 2/3 in plumbing, heating engineering that includes system design within its scope or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a working role.
The total cost of this pack is £600, however, if eligible, you could receive £500 Heat Training Scheme voucher, which means all you need to pay is £100 at the time of booking.
The £500 voucher is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Heat Training Grant Scheme and is available to;
- Trainees who have a home address registered in England.
- Sole traders and those that work for a business of 250 employees or fewer, or unemployed.
- Trainees certified by an appropriate competent person’s scheme (CPS) for heating and hot water systems. Such as Gas Safe, APHC, NAPIT etc.
Training Pack 2 - Bootcamps - 10 Days
This training pack includes the following qualifications:
- Water Regulations and Byelaws (pre-requisite of below qualification)
- Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems
- Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems
- Part L – Energy Efficiency
TThere are various start dates throughout the year and the package of qualifications will take 10 days to complete with a four-week interval between the first and second week.
The course takes place at St Helens College’s Green Energy Skills Centre, St Helens, WA9 1AR.

You should have an S/NVQ Level 2/3 in plumbing, heating engineering that includes system design within its scope or a number of years’ experience (minimum 2 years) in a working role.
This pack is:
- Free for self-employed and unemployed individuals
- £60 for SME (less than 250 employees)
- £180 for large employers (more than 250 employees)
You must also be a resident of the Liverpool City Region or the company address must be within the Liverpool City Region.
