Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

AAT is the world's leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide.

The Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting is designed for those who wish to develop both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed to pursue a successful career in accounting or progress on to further study.

You will gain a broad and thorough introduction to accountancy whilst developing your skills in finance administration, double-entry bookkeeping, accounting software and purchase, sales and general ledgers.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has start dates in January and September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will study the following:

  • Introduction to bookkeeping
  • Principles of bookkeeping controls
  • Principles of costing
  • The business environment

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed through computer-based assessments at the end of each unit. You will also undertake an end-of-year synoptic test once all units have been completed.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You must have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above (equivalent to grade C or above) in English and maths, or an equivalent qualification.

All new applicants for an AAT course at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £633. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping. Alternatively, you may wish to secure employment within entry level accountancy roles.
