The College has currently undergone an exciting new development, which has created a fantastic state of the art hairdressing, beauty and spa training facility. The brand new area will host three beauty and complementary therapy training salons, and three hairdressing salons, plus a state of the art commercial salon called The Lounge. This includes hairdressing, nail bar and full spa facilities, such as steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, monsoon shower, ice facility, tanning area, dry floatation and three therapy treatment rooms.
This facility plays a central role in the training of students, providing a realistic working environment, and the chance to gain experience within this exciting industry.
Students have the option to take part in national competitions, demonstrating their skills and abilities throughout the locality. St Helens College has also been voted the best college for hairdressing within the North West.
If you have the desire, you could run your own salon, work aboard a cruise ship or become a freelance stylist/therapist.

For students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
The Foundation Academy at St Helens College offers programmes for people with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities in a supportive environment which caters for a wide range of needs, both personal and academic.
Each student is assessed individually for their academic needs. Our Specialist Learning Disabilities Nurse will further assess them for any personal needs they may have. This is so that we can offer the most appropriate programmes of study as well as appropriate support for each individual.
Our experienced staff provide education and training that is tailored to the needs of students. This is backed up by our own Health Care team, who provide support for students’ personal needs, and our Learning Support Officers assist students in their academic and vocational studies.
Our full time programmes take place on two to three days per week, depending on the qualification. Our programmes aim to provide students with the opportunity to gain both vocational and independent life skills.
Our core programmes provide the opportunity for students to learn about and experience a wide range of life skills, accessing the community, local travel and transport, shopping and budgeting to name but a few.
As part of their Core programme a student may also take advantage of some of the following options:
