Launch your airline career with a fantastic opportunity to develop relevant knowledge and the practical skills you will need to begin work as cabin crew or a customer service agent at a regional or International airport. As well as practicing the necessary skills of cabin crew in our simulated twenty four seat aircraft cabin you will also undertake regular visits to Manchester and Liverpool airports.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
The programme will start in September and finish in June.
What will I study?
You will participate in a residential trip and many team building activities as well as visit the Thomas Cook training centre to perform emergency evacuations, fire and smoke, life raft simulation and safety demonstration. We will also support you to develop your life skills in numeracy and literacy but this is an integral part of the programme and you will be expected to show commitment. As part of your programme you will get a great opportunity to undertake planned work placement and through trips, visits and seminars you will meet employers from the airline industry.
Units of study include:
- Introduction to airline/ aviation operations
- Airline health, safety and security
- Airline emergency procedures
- Crew room duties
- Role of air cabin crew (on board)
- Preparation for employment as air cabin crew
All learners will also study the necessary knowledge and skills of working in an airport environment.
Entry to the Programme
To enter this programme you will require a good GCSE profile (preferably 2-4 GCSEs A-C) including either English or Maths. A well groomed appearance and positive attitude to Customer Service is essential. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age by 1st April 2014. You will be required to hold a full passport and to realistically be able to take advantage of the employment opportunities at the end of the programme you may need to be of a minimum height of 5ft 2 or above. You should be able to travel independently to Liverpool or Manchester airport. We view that 100% attendance and punctuality is paramount and therefore you will be dedicated to learning.
All applicants will be interviewed in line with industry requirements for potential.
How is it assessed?
The programme is assessed by assignments, projects, case studies, observations, presentations and role-plays in the mock aircraft or at an airline training centre.
On successful completion of the programme you will be prepared with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to work effectively as air cabin crew or on the ground as a customer service agent. Candidates are informed of employment vacancies in a variety of roles at Liverpool and Manchester Airports upon completion of their college course.
