HNC Operations Engineering

The HNC Operations Engineering is recognised by employers nationally as a qualification suitable for those working in higher technical, supervisory and management positions in operations engineering. You will develop analytical and evaluate skills during the course and will be well equipped to undertake more senior roles in the engineering industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in September. You will be required to study on one extended day per week (typically from 9.00am to 8.00pm) for two years.

What will I study?

You will study engineering principles as well as gaining an understanding of management and business practice in the engineering sector. You will gain an insight into the design, management and control of all operations engineering processes including health and safety practices in the industry. Study also involves undertaking practical project based work.

You will study the following core units:

  • Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation
  • Engineering Science
  • Analytical Methods for Engineers

Optional Units:

  • PLCs
  • Plant Technology
  • Project Design, Implementation
  • Electrical Power
  • Business Management
  • Techniques
  • Engineering Design
  • Application of Pneumatics and Hydraulics
  • Plant and Process Principals

This course is delivered at the newly refurbished STEM Centre, Technology Campus which has recently received significant investment.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of assignments including progress tests and end of session examinations.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have a National Certificate/Diploma in Engineering, a GNVQ in Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

What are the course fees?

For 2017 entry, tuition fees for part-time study on this undergraduate qualification are £2400 per annum.

Subject to eligibility, students can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Government to cover the full cost of tuition fees.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

The HNC Operations Engineering provides learners with the skills demanded by industry. It opens up the possibility of a career over a wide range of engineering disciplines including technical support to middle management.

The qualification also provides you with the opportunity to seek career development into senior positions in national and international companies.

Students who complete this course may progress onto the HND in Operations Engineering at University Centre St Helens.
