Foundation Academy St Helens College Sixth Form
For students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
The Foundation Academy at St Helens College offers programmes for people with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities in a supportive environment which caters for a wide range of needs, both personal and academic.
Each student is assessed individually for their academic needs. Our Specialist Learning Disabilities Nurse will further assess them for any personal needs they may have. This is so that we can offer the most appropriate programmes of study as well as appropriate support for each individual.
Our experienced staff provide education and training that is tailored to the needs of students. This is backed up by our own Health Care team, who provide support for students’ personal needs, and our Learning Support Officers assist students in their academic and vocational studies.
Our full time programmes take place on two to three days per week, depending on the qualification. Our programmes aim to provide students with the opportunity to gain both vocational and independent life skills.
Our core programmes provide the opportunity for students to learn about and experience a wide range of life skills, accessing the community, local travel and transport, shopping and budgeting to name but a few.
As part of their Core programme a student may also take advantage of some of the following options:
IT
ART
WOODWORK
BASIC COOKING
BASIC FOOD HYGIENE
EXERCISE TO MUSIC
INTRODUCTION TO SPORT

We also offer part time programmes for students who are looking to add to their skills and learning.
