Sports Therapy
Background
Sports Therapy is part of the Department of Health, Sport and Public Service which is a lively, rapidly growing area, based at the Town Centre campus, which has excellent facilities for both curriculum and recreational activities.
Facilities offered by the department are amongst the best in Further Education. Students have access to a dedicated Sports Science Lab, industry standard fitness studio and a sports therapy clinic. Other facilities on offer include modern fitness suits, four court sports hall and playing fields.
The department’s academic staff offer a wide range of interest, expertise and professionalism. Sports Therapy offers not only treatment and management of injuries but a consultancy service to individual athletes, sports teams and members of the public. The consultancy service offers consultations, scientific support and support and physiological assessments.
What is Sports Therapy
Sports Therapy is a type of health care that specifically focuses on the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to full levels of fitness and function regardless of age and the injury sustained. Sports Therapist treat not only ‘injured athletes’, but also deal with many common muscular complaints, mobility problems, postural problems and work related conditions. Sports Therapist advise on prevention of injuries and can examine, assess and treat those that do occur, as well as helping with the rehabilitation process. All Sports Therapy treatments are tailored to meet the needs of each individual.
