Graduation Ceremony for St Helens College graduates

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a system provided by UCAS and used by universities across the country that matches applicants with universities that still have unfilled places.

Thousands of university places are allocated this way every year. Most universities have additional places available for students that haven’t made their mind up yet, or whose circumstances mean they need to look at alternative options.

Who can apply through Clearing?

Clearing is the process you will go through to secure a place on a degree if you:
  • Have not received or have not accepted any offers
  • Have not met the A level or BTEC entry requirements for your firm or insurance choices
  • Have not made a UCAS application to study at a higher education institution this year
  • Are looking to leave another university and transfer to University Centre St Helens
  • Are a mature adult, who is returning to education and has not yet applied to study a degree

When does Clearing take place?

Clearing opened on Friday 5th July 2024, for those who:

  • Already have their exam results
  • Hold no offers at their chosen universities

For everyone else, Clearing opens on A Level/Level 3 Vocational Results Day, which is Thursday 15th August 2024 and will close on Monday 21st October 2024.

If you have already applied to study at university using the UCAS process, you can check ‘UCAS Track’ to see if you are eligible for Clearing.

UCAS will not send you anything in the post to tell you if you are eligible, so it is important that you check online.

If you are eligible for Clearing, an ‘Add Clearing Choice’ button will appear on your ‘Track Choices’ screen, allowing you to apply for a place at University Centre St Helens, using institution code S51.
