St Helens College and Knowsley Community College is celebrating the fantastic achievements of its A Level Academy and BTEC students, with a quarter of all A level grades awarded at A*- B. This is a great result, despite the unnerving uncertainty students and tutors have faced over what has been a challenging few months.

As students collected their results this morning, anxious anticipation over cancelled exams soon turned into smiles and celebrations after discovering this had not detracted from securing their place at some of the best universities across the UK. Pleasingly, 98% of students secured a place at their first-choice universities, including Edge Hill University, Lancaster University and De Montfort University, and Russell Group, University of Liverpool, to name just a few.

New College Principal, Simon Pierce, says, “We are extremely proud of the unrelenting hard work and dedication of our students and staff, during what has been an extremely difficult and challenging time. We are delighted to be able to safely celebrate the effort and achievements of our students, with friends, family and tutors today.”

He adds, “Our students have progressed through a transformational journey both personally and academically, all culminating in their well-deserved achievements today, and we wish them the very best for their exciting futures.”

High flying A level student, Summer, one of our top achievers, is celebrating her incredible success after achieving A*, A, B in English Language, English Literature and History.
Summer is progressing to Lancaster University to read English Language and Media, in hopes of securing a career in Journalism. She says, “I was so shocked and overwhelmed with my results. It was the best decision I have made joining the A Level Academy after studying at a Sixth Form. The smaller class sizes and the tutor support has been great!”

Proud mum, Sharon adds, “Over the last twelve months, Summer has excelled at the A Level Academy. She has worked harder than ever, and I cannot thank the tutors and the College enough for their extra support and the care they’ve given to her during the lockdown period. I don’t think Summer would’ve achieved what she has if she had studied elsewhere.”

Picture of our student, Ben, with his resultsFormer Sutton Academy student, Ben expressed his ‘delight’ at securing his university place. He says, “I was really apprehensive about collecting my results today. Lockdown has been a challenging time for me; however, I am delighted to have secured my place at De Montfort University to read Law. I hope to go on to become a Solicitor."

Aspiring Barrister, Marta, joined the A Level Academy after making the move to the UK from Portugal. Marta is “overjoyed” after discovering that she has achieved A*, A, B in Sociology, Law and Religious Studies, and has secured her place at the University of Liverpool to read Law.

She says, “I was so shocked when I learned how well I had done - I really wasn’t expecting the grades I have achieved, especially after the uncertainty we have all faced over the last few months. I am so excited to be able to pursue my dream of studying Law and leading a successful career as a Barrister.”

Alongside A level results, many BTEC students achieved triple Distinction star grades (D*D*D*) in their vocational courses and also secured their places at first choice universities. D*D*D* grades amount to the same UCAS tariff points as those achieving A* grades at A level.

Aspiring Robotics Engineer, Harrison, achieved an impressive D*, D*, D* on his level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing and is progressing on to Edge Hill University to read Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

He says, “I am amazed with my results! All of the hard work and studying, especially during the lockdown period, has paid off, which is all thanks to the support from my amazing tutors. I am so excited to start my degree in September and to see where it will take me. I hope to one day become a Robotics Engineer or Programmer.”
