Staff and students recently came together to celebrate the achievements of our Level 1, 2 and 3 Early Years students at our annual presentation evening held at our Colours Restaurant.

During the event, the students’ academic achievements, personal milestones and special recognitions were celebrated by our Early Years tutors.

Awards were given to students for their hard work throughout the year, including Laura, who studies on our Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children course and was nominated by her fellow students to receive an award for her commitment to her studies.

Meanwhile, the coveted ‘Student of the Year’ award was awarded to Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education student Katie, for her hard work and dedication to her learning.

Proud Early Years tutor, Rachel Summerskill, commented: “The ‘Student of the Year’ award was greatly deserved by Katie. She always works extremely hard and is a great support to her peers. She is exceptionally organised and has received excellent feedback from her time on placement with St Peter’s C.E. Primary School in Newton-le-Willows and the wider Early Years team.”

Capturing the evening was our talented Media Production degree student, Owen Langton; a passionate photographer and videographer. Owen progressed on to University Centre St Helens from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice course, and used the evening to gain some valuable work experience.

Principal Simon Pierce closed the evening, speaking of his own experience in education and commending the journey of the students and the hard work of their tutors.

Early Years Tutor Rachel Summerskill, who has been with many of the students throughout their journey commented: “It was a great evening, enjoyed by the whole department, staff and students! It was the first time since Covid that we’ve been able to get together as a department.

“We are immensely proud of all the students’ achievements and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing them progress from the start of their course to now. Seeing them grow in confidence and experience life in the industry on placement has been amazing to see and be a part of, and we wish our Level 3 students, who are leaving us this time, all the best in their future careers.”

A huge well done to all of our students!
