Students at St Helens College often have the opportunity to go on trips and experiences that enhance their learning. One such experience for our Level 3 Plumbing and Gas apprentices was the opportunity to attend the 2022 InstallerShow, the biggest plumbing and heating exhibition in the UK.

Attended by industry professionals, inventors and innovators, the InstallerShow gives attendees the chance to get to grips with the latest cutting-edge products and technologies on the market. The event also gave the students invaluable access to some of the brightest and most knowledgeable minds in the industry, including Director of EGE Energy Ltd, Steve Webster, and Director of Mayfly Group Ltd, Grant Gundelfinger. These speakers shared their experience and information on the future of renewable technologies and what the future holds for the plumbing, heating and electrical industries.

Competitions were also held to give students the chance to demonstrate their skills to trade experts and potential employers. There were also opportunities to learn new skills too; experienced professionals hosted training sessions at the Installer Training Theatre, ensuring attendees left with a greater understanding of their industry.

Plumbing tutor, Chris Lee, said: “The InstallerShow had to be one of the highlights of this academic year. Over 40 of our apprentices met with key industry links and manufacturers, taking part in competitions, and leaving with bags full of freebies and discounted tools. One of our apprentices even topped the leader board of the Lawton Tubes copper pipe challenge with Peter Booth!

“Thank you to everyone that shared their product and professional knowledge with our apprentices; you made them laugh, ask questions, demonstrate skills and really engaged them. This event is something that will be talked about for a long time.”

Andrew Cam from Mark Vitow Ltd even donated a brand new FlowPro FP400 Macerator to the College, giving students the opportunity to train and become confident with this vital piece of equipment.

Opportunities like these are an amazing way for students to learn and develop their skills, growing their confidence as they work towards becoming highly skilled professionals in their chosen industries.
