Our Plumbing and Gas apprentices had an insightful visit recently from Steven Worthington, Technical Trainer at Worcester Bosch, who came in to talk about the company’s plans to meet the planned phase out of natural gas in new build homes by 2025, and the introduction of new and advanced technologies!

With large changes ahead for the Plumbing and Gas industry, Steven discussed the work Worcester Bosch are doing to put themselves at the forefront of these new advances in technology, in order to meet government plans for all new boilers to support 100% hydrogen power by 2026 and the rise of Air Source Heat Pumps, a low-carbon way of heating homes.

Steven went on to explain the government’s plans of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, which involves the reduction of carbon emissions and taking steps to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. He discussed how Worcester Bosch are contributing to these targets through investing in carbon-efficient technologies.

Carbon emissions can have harmful effects on the environment, and how we heat our homes is one of the main contributors, so it’s important now more than ever that those working in the Plumbing and Gas industry are fully trained and prepared to help meet these targets.

Hearing from professionals like Steven, who are working at the forefront of these advancements, is a huge benefit to our students as they prepare for life in the industry.

Plumbing and Gas Tutor, Ross, said “With massive changes looming for the gas industry, the most common question I get asked by my apprentices is “what does the future of the gas industry look like?” This uncertainty can be scary for a young person just starting out. So, hearing from those in the industry, like Steven, gives them a helpful insight into the different pathways they could take going forward in their careers.”
