Our Electrical Installation students and apprentices had the chance to rub shoulders with industry professionals this week, as the College hosted a Trade Show in collaboration with Acorn Electrical Supplies Ltd, welcoming suppliers, service providers and wholesalers from across the industry.

We welcomed a number of exhibitors to our STEM Centre, including Verso Electrical, Stiebel Eltron, Wiska UK and Novah Ltd, who brought a range of products, including new and exciting technologies, freebies for our students and advice on the latest updates from the industry.

Amongst the exhibitors was electric vehicle charging company, Project EV, who brought their charging van onto campus. The students got to see how this technology is used in Project EV’s range of electric vehicle chargers, including the ultra-rapid charging capabilities of DC units, which can charge a modern electric vehicle from empty to full in less than 90 minutes.

With the UK government’s target of transitioning to zero-emission cars and vans by 2035, the electric vehicle industry is expanding rapidly, and welcomes a number of opportunities for our students and apprentices. Hearing from experts in the field will help prepare them for what’s next for the industry.

Stiebel Eltron, who manufacture heat pumps and solar systems, introduced their latest eco-friendly heating technology, the SNE 5 t ECO Vented Water Heater, technology which provides instantaneous water heating and prevents energy loss, technology which our students are studying as part of their courses.

LED lighting specialists, Novah Ltd, showcased their brand new “SELECT” technology, which allows installers to select up to eight lumen outputs when installing LED lighting, helping to reduce the lighting cost in commercial and industrial settings.

Verso Electrical, a company specialising in electrical wiring, demonstrated their modular wiring accessories, updating our students on changes to industry regulations, which will affect the installation of circuit breaker panels in homes in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Wiska UK, showcased their range of cable entries, CCTV equipment, and lighting products, which our students will be installing throughout their careers. The students came away with goodie bags full of Wiska products, including their All-In-One combi gel shot, a multi-function product, which protects wiring against water damage.

Electrical Installation tutor and event organiser, Michael, said “Thank you to Acorn Electrical Suppliers LTD for teaming up with us to put on this amazing event! The day was a great success, and the students came away with lots of useful information, goodies, and advice about careers and life in the industry. Opportunities like these are not only great for our students but also a chance for us to support our valued links with those in the industry.”

A big thank you to all our exhibitors who attended our event! We look forward to working with you again in the future.
