Are you considering a career in cooking? Do you love food? Or maybe you are considering opening a small café or other food business?

This short, flexible cookery course enables you to sample studying for a career in the food and hospitality industry.

This course is due to start on Wednesday 4th September 2024. You will attend college for two days on Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am – 2.00pm, for one week.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

The focus is primarily on the practical aspects of the culinary world allowing you to develop real skills. You will also explore the importance of using fresh produce to compile basic healthy dishes.

Taught by professional chefs and food service staff from a range of backgrounds, including Michelin-starred restaurants, cruise liners, hotels and industrial environments you have the opportunity to train in first class facilities.

You have the opportunity to learn skills in butchery, fishmongery, sauce making, as well as baking and preparing vegetables.

There is no formal assessment for this short course.

No previous qualifications are required. All you need is motivation and passion for food and possibly be considering a career in the industry.

You may be eligible for funding if you have not recently participated in a similar programme, or received any other recent government funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed – FREE
  • If you are employed – £30
  • If you are not eligible for funding – £120

The course price is inclusive of all the ingredients that you will need for each session.

This course could be very first step on the ladder towards gaining a career in the Hospitality Industry. The industry is one of the fastest growing in the world. In England alone there are well over 100,000 businesses employing a workforce of over 1 million and there are still shortages for skilled chefs and well qualified managers.

You may also choose to progress on to a formal qualification at the College.
