Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Technical)

This technical course will prepare you for a successful career as an employed and/or self-employed Beauty Therapist in the industry.

During this course, designed in collaboration with employers and professional associations in the beauty therapy sector, you will explore everything from eyelash and eyebrow services and manicure and pedicure treatments to facial and skin type analysis and makeup applications.

You will also gain insight from special guest speakers such as skincare specialists and local industry professionals.

At the end of your course, you will have the opportunity to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology, or Federation of Holistic Therapists, a membership that is highly valued and recognised by the industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health, safety and hygiene
  • Consultation techniques and client care
  • Manicure treatments
  • Pedicure treatments
  • Waxing services
  • Facial treatments
  • Skin type analysis
  • Eyebrow shaping services
  • Eyelash and eyebrow tinting services
  • Makeup applications
  • Anatomy and physiology for beauty therapists

How is it assessed?

An assessment will take place at the end of the course which will combine what you have learned from different parts of the course. Practice assessments will take place throughout the year.

You are also required to build a portfolio of evidence to support what has been carried out over the period of your course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English and maths, or a level 1 Beauty Therapy qualification.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2019), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy

As a qualified Beauty Therapist, you could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:

  • Commercial salons
  • Destination/Day spas
  • Independent/Self-employed/Mobile/Home-based setting
  • Care homes
