The catering and hospitality industry is fast-paced and innovative. As visitor numbers continue to grow rapidly in the Liverpool City Region, this provides a great opportunity for you to launch your own business, or be part of a creative team.

You will benefit

Based in our industry standard kitchens and award-winning restaurant, Colours, you will cook and serve alongside experienced chefs and tutors who have held careers in Michelin starred restaurants and luxury hotels all around the world.

Many of our students have prepared, cooked and served food for banquets at Everton Football Club and the British Army, including catering for conferences of up to 3,000 people at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

You will succeed

Follow in the footsteps of our previous students who now work with industry leaders such as The Art School, Gleneagles, The Marram Grass, Mercure, The Shankly Hotel and The Thistle Hotel.

Others have gone on to work alongside celebrity chefs, including Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White or have launched their own catering businesses, such as Goya Griffiths’ Thai inspired restaurant, Chiang Mai Bistro.

Celebrity chefs, Jon Ashton and John Campbell also graduated from St Helens College. Ashton, who now lives in the USA, has appeared on The Today Show, The Tonight Show and is the current food correspondent for the nation’s morning show, The Daily Buzz. Campbell owns two Michelin Star restaurants, writes articles and recipes for The Sunday Times and The Observer Food Monthly, and he also appears as a guest chef on MasterChef and Saturday Kitchen.

You will stand out

To help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or further qualifications, you will be encouraged to participate in industry competitions such as The Northwest Commis Chef Awards. Our students have also scooped gold in the Battle of the Northwest culinary competition.

At St Helens College, you will have the opportunity to build new network links, friendships, life-long skills and relevant knowledge.
