Level 2 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is suitable for those who are perhaps seeking a career change or considering establishing their own business and wishing to develop their knowledge of the hospitality industry.

This exciting course takes place in our fast-paced and award-winning restaurant, Colours, where you'll be working alongside experienced professionals in the industry.

Learning the art of silver service, bar skills, table service and customer service plays a crucial role in this course, alongside developing your menu and beverage product knowledge.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA0 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Food safety in catering
  • Investigating the catering and hospitality industry
  • Health and safety in catering and hospitality
  • Applying workplace skills
  • Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure and travel and tourism
  • Legislation in food and beverage service
  • Menu knowledge and design
  • Principles of beverage product knowledge
  • Service of hot beverages
  • Food and beverage service skills
  • Handling payments and maintaining the payment point

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No formal qualifications are necessary but a good level of English and maths skills would be desirable.

Students must be motivated, able to work as part of a team, passionate about food and be committed to studying for at least 13 hours of study per week.
