A Taste of Italy

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This inspiring cookery course is intended to develop your culinary flair and knowledge of Italian food.

You will use a variety of local products, spices and herbs to prepare and cook a selection of authentic Italian dishes. You will develop an understanding of how to prepare and cook foods using a variety of techniques in creating, balance, texture and taste.

From pizza to pasta and everything in between, if you love Italian food this course is for you. It is also the perfect gift for those who love Italian food!

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course is due to start on Thursday 22nd February 2024. You will attend college on Thursday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm, for four weeks.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

This course will allow you to explore various ingredients and develop basic Italian cookery skills while encouraging you to develop your own creative culinary ideas

You will be presented with a range of recipes and some of the dishes may include:

  • Ribollita
  • Saltimbocca
  • Osso Bucco alla Milanese
  • Pasta con le Sarde

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment.

You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.

As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements, as with all of our leisure cookery courses, the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.

You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron and a tea towel.

Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £40

The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may wish to progress onto an accredited qualification in this subject, which will allow you to practice your skills in the industry.
