Spanish Delights

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This fascinating four-week cookery course will develop your culinary skills by experimenting with fresh local produce and will allow you to explore quick and versatile methods to cook mouth-watering Spanish dishes.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course is due to start on Thursday 16th May 2024. You will attend college on Thursday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm, for four weeks.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will explore tasty food inspired by the Romans and the moors of North Africa. This cookery course will take you on a culinary journey through some of Spain's most exciting regional specialities, allowing you to explore various ingredients that reflect the rich culture and colourful history of Spain. You will learn new skills in culinary techniques to produce a range of dishes that could include:

  • Traditional paella
  • Smoked paprika chicken skewers
  • Prawn & avocado escabeche
  • Tortilla tapas
  • Olive bread swirls

Course participants will be able to develop their awareness of Health and Safety relating to the preparation of food, food safety awareness, practical knife skills and stove control, whilst learning logical and coherent methods for producing Spanish dishes.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.

As with all our leisure courses, the main emphasis is to come and enjoy!

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.

You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron, tea towel, and an oven glove.

Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £40

The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may wish to progress onto an accredited qualification in this subject, which will allow you to practice your skills in the industry.
