Level 2 Preparation for Work in the Digital Sector


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This programme aims to provide you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours that you will need to work within the digital sector as an IT practitioner.

The programme offers you the opportunity to gain core skills and covers topics that reflect employers needs.

The course is designed to help close a current skills gap within the Liverpool City Region and provide highly skilled digital practitioners to local employers. Delivery will be a mix of on-site activities and blended online learning. On completion of the course, you will receive a certificate.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course is planned to start in May 2021 and will take 8 - 12 weeks to complete. Start dates and duration are subject to change, based on Government COVID-19 guidelines.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

This programme will allow learners to develop the key skills that are required by employers.

Topics covered will include:

  • Technical support and programming skills
  • Building a prominent online presence that reaches a wider audience, particularly in the event of local and national lockdowns
  • Organise, set up and deliver online meetings through a range of platforms including Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Collaboration and communication with others to develop positive relationships and impact communities
  • Social media strategy

How is it assessed?

You will achieve the course by completing a portfolio of evidence.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No formal qualifications are necessary for this course. However, GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above (equivalent to a C), would be an advantage.

What are the course fees?

This course is FREE for residents within the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helen's, Sefton, Wirral), regardless of your individual circumstances.

If you live outside of the Liverpool City Region course fees apply. The fee for this course is £399.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course provides lots of transferable skills and is designed to help learners move into employment in the digital sector.

You could also choose to progress onto to a level 3 qualification.
