Introduction to Electrical Installation

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This short, leisure course is designed for anyone wishing to try their hand at electrical installation and will provide participants with an introduction to this craft.

You will have the chance to learn from professionals, who have a wealth of experience from working in the industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start on Tuesday 12th March 2024 and will take three weeks to complete. You will attend college on Tuesday evening, from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

The course takes place at our STEM Centre, Technology Campus, St Helens WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • Selection and use of tools and equipment
  • Introduction to conduit
  • Types of circuits
  • Sockets and switches
  • Maintaining basic electrical items in the home

Stout footwear is required (no open-toe sandals or high heels permitted). Overalls or old clothes are also recommended.

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. The course aims to increase your own knowledge of the subject matter.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. All you will need is commitment and enthusiasm. As with all our introduction courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy the workshops.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government-funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £30

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may want to develop your skills further and apply to study for a recognised accredited qualification.
