Introduction to Plastering

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

Want to try your hand at plastering?

Whether you are passionate about DIY and looking for your next project, or wanting to see whether the plastering trade is for you as a career, this short course will provide you with an introduction to the craft.

You will have the chance to learn from professionals, who have a wealth of experience from working in the industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start on Tuesday 20th February 2024 and will take three weeks to complete. You will attend college on Tuesday evening, from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

The course takes place at our STEM Centre, Technology Campus, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • Selection and use of tools, materials and equipment
  • Boarding a ceiling
  • 'Dot and dab' boarding to walls
  • Jointing techniques
  • Application and finishing techniques

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. The course aims to increase your knowledge and skills and the main emphasis is to come and enjoy!

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. All you will need is commitment and enthusiasm.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government-funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £30

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may want to develop your skills further and apply to study for a recognised accredited qualification.
