Our FdA Theatre and Performance students recently had the opportunity to take part in a series of physical theatre and creative writing workshops with Tmesis Theatre, an award-winning company who create extraordinary physical theatre.

The students took part in a thrilling theatre session at the newly opened Shakespeare North Playhouse Theatre in Prescot, donning their main stage with Tmesis actor, Samuel Duran.

During the session, the students drew inspiration from Tmesis’ most recent production, Sealskin, where the students explored themes from the legend that the production is based on, and used their body language and movements to tell a story to music.

The students then explored their creativity as part of a creative writing workshop, looking at effective ways to write dialogue and convert ideas into fully fledged stage productions, creating the perfect opportunity for the students to hone their writing skills and put the knowledge they’ve learnt throughout their studies into practice.

The students were thrilled to work with Tmesis, with student, Nicole, telling us “The workshop with Tmesis was excellent! It was very unique, and the exercises they taught us enabled me to let go of any other emotions on my mind and move fluently to the sound of the music. The group leaders were very passionate and made everyone feel included.”

Student Chyna, added “I loved the workshop- it gave me so much inspiration for my own work, and I couldn’t believe it was free!”

The students are looking forward to returning to the Shakespeare North Playhouse Theatre in Spring to watch the finished production of Sealskin, and have been encouraged to give their feedback, drawing on the skills and techniques they learnt during these workshops.
