Our first year BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting students took their creativity across the water recently, as they partnered with French Art School, Ecole Media Arts, in a virtual painting exchange, with their final pieces being displayed at the recent ‘One Amazing Day’ festival in the heart of St Helens.

Situated in Chalon-sur-Saône, France, Ecole Media Arts is located in one of the official twin towns of St Helens and has had a long-standing relationship with our University Centre St Helens Art Department. Our Fine Art Painting tutor, Fiona, visit our twin town representatives last year, taking a tour of their facilities, sharing their experiences, and growing the link between our organisations.

As part of this year’s collaboration, the students sent virtual instructions to our friends overseas, which the students used to develop their own piece of unique artwork. The project gave the students the opportunity to share creative ideas, explore different techniques and establish a bond between the two towns.

As part of the St Helens Borough of Culture initiative, the students then had the opportunity to exhibit their work in the former Topshop St Helens store, which was viewed by many during the recent ‘One Amazing Day’ festival.

Fine Art Painting Tutor, Fiona, said “The students were so pleased to be able to link up with Ecole Media Arts, and then have their work displayed in the centre of St Helens for all to see. We are so pleased with the results of the painting exchange and look forward to building on this relationship with the art school in the future!”
