Flávio graduated from the BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree at University Centre St Helens and has since worked with some amazing creative agencies and clients such as Warner Music as a Freelance Graphic Designer.
Moving from his native home in Portugal in 2014, Flávio enrolled at St Helens College on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production.
Whilst on the course, Flávio began to take a strong interest in design and illustration, which ultimately determined his next steps towards higher level study at university.
Flávio said, "I applied to several universities, but my decision to stay and progress to University Centre St Helens was simple. I knew the teaching staff, the environment and understood that you get a much more personalised learning environment compared to that of a larger university. Not wanting to move away also played a big part as I live 5 minutes away from St Helens Town Centre."
BA (Hons) Graphic Design reflects the current demands of contemporary graphic design practice, offering students the opportunity to explore graphic design through a range of digital and traditional media.
Flávio commented, "The degree really allowed me to be as creative as I wanted to be, designing projects and concepts that reflect who I am as a creative individual. I also took part in the Vortex Exhibition in my final year, to showcase my clothing brand concept that I designed for my final project! My work has also been exhibited at UCAS exhibitions."
Since graduating in 2019, Flávio has flourished into a Freelance Graphic Designer, working with a range of creative clients including a marketing agency, assisting with their social media channels and designing visual projects for creative brands.
More recently, Flávio has had an incredible opportunity to work with, Warner Music, where he creatively directs and designs album covers, working with Portuguese artists. Warner Music is the record label for world-renowned artists such as Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello.
Flávio said, "Since graduation, it really has been an amazing year or so. If I were told that in a years’ time, I'd be fully designing and art directing a physical album for Warner Music, I would've probably laughed! I'm doing the most I can to express myself through design, as that was one of the things my father asked me to do before passing away this January."
Flávio concluded, "I couldn't be more proud of where I have developed and gained all the skills needed to work successfully in the industry, from studying at University Centre St Helens to the support from my tutors and working with professional Graphic Designers on campus. It's been a crazy ride, but it is all taking shape!"
