An Accounts/Finance Assistant is an integral role within a business for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function.

Responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties, roles could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, and recording of cash and data entry.

Entry requirements

You should have 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade 4 (grade C) or above.

Duration

The apprenticeship will take 12 months to complete.

How will I be taught?

You will spend one day per month at College, developing your knowledge and working towards your qualification and the remaining time will be spent on the job with the employer, developing your skills and experience.

How will I be assessed?

Apprentices will complete an ‘End Point Assessment’, which will assess each of the knowledge, skills and behaviours detailed above.

Assessment consists of two elements:

  1. Structured interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary)
  2. In-tray Test

What can the apprenticeship lead to?

Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you could progress on to the next level of training such as the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard and/or secure a permanent job with your employer.

This apprenticeship could also provide progression into a number of career paths including Assistant Accountant, Audit Trainee, Corporate Recovery Analyst or Credit Controller.

What support is available?

You will have access to an assessor and a tutor, who will provide one-to-one support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.

In addition to this, we also have a Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team and Learner Support Team to offer support and help when needed.

Apprentices can benefit from various money saving schemes too, including:

  • An NUS Apprentice Extra Card
  • Travel discounts
  • £1,000 bursary for care leavers aged 16-24, to help the transition into the workplace.
  • Free breakfast on the day you are in College*
  • Free College bus

*Must be aged 16-18.
