Volunteering (Level 1)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

If English is not your first language, volunteering can be a great way to learn and develop the skills you need, both practically and personally.

Volunteering can help you make friends, learn new skills, advance your career, and even feel happier and healthier. Learn how to find the right volunteer opportunity for you.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various start dates throughout the year and will take 12 weeks to complete. It is a flexible course and can be studied either during the day or in the evening.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will study the following topics:

  • Improve your English and communication skills
  • Find out what volunteering involves
  • Learn how to apply for volunteer work
  • Explore skills and qualities that you need
  • Write a CV and letters of application

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed through a portfolio that you will build during the course.

On completion you will gain an NCFE Level 1 Certificate.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You must have English Language skills at level 1.

What are the course fees?

ESOL courses are free for EU citizens or those with a right to remain. An eligibility assessment will be required and more information will be provided once we receive your application.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

After completing this course, you could progress on to another course or explore volunteering opportunities.
