Working with children and young people is a hugely rewarding career. Every child is unique, every family different, and no two days are ever the same. There is always a demand for high-quality care professionals and our courses can help you get the skills and qualifications you need to start your career.

St Helens College offers a wide range of courses across childcare, education and youth work, enabling you to specialise in your chosen profession. This could be anything from teaching and working in a nursery setting as an assistant to youth work, child psychology and much more.

You will benefit

You will have the opportunity to undertake work placements in a variety of settings including schools, nurseries and youth clubs, to gain valuable experience of working in the industry.

Our tutors and lecturers have held successful careers within the industry, and have worked for organisations such as Barnardos, local schools, nurseries and local authority youth services, so you can have confidence in knowing that you will be learning from the best.

You will succeed

Follow in the footsteps of our previous students who now work with local councils, nurseries and charities. Some of our students have even gone on to secure Au Pair work in countries like the USA and Canada. Others have decided to continue with their education and progressed on to university to further develop their skills and knowledge.

Many students also choose to ‘stay local’ and continue their studies at University Centre St Helens. You will be encouraged to set challenging personal targets and be supported every step of the way to help you succeed.

You will stand out

To help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or further qualifications, we encourage and support you in securing work placements. We also strongly believe in rewarding our students for their good work and hold award ceremonies in which we celebrate your achievements.

Through studying childcare, education and youth work with us, you will have the opportunity to build new network links, friendships, life-long skills and relevant knowledge.
