St Helens College played host to the much-anticipated Concept Hair Roadshow, which transformed our Town Centre Campus Library into a vibrant hub of creativity for an immersive afternoon of innovation and education, bringing the latest trends in the dynamic world of hairdressing, and welcoming representatives from leading industry brands such as L’Oréal, Wella, Denman, DIVA, Matrix, Pulp RiotIndola and Alan Howard.

The Concept Hair Roadshow is renowned for its commitment to bringing cutting-edge techniques, industry insights, and hands-on experiences to the next generation of hairdressers across the UK. Their shows intend to support and inspire students by showcasing the various opportunities available in the industry including those offered by Concept Hair themselves, including their ‘Learner of the Year’ competition.

Students from our Hairdressing and Hair and Media Makeup courses at St Helens and Knowsley Community College came together to attend the event, for a jam-pack afternoon of fun.

The roadshow kicked off with pop-up stalls, where brands showcased a range of products, giving the students the opportunity to explore cutting-edge tools, premium hair products, and the latest innovations in the hairdressing industry, as well as bag themselves some free goodies and prizes.

Followed by a series of live demonstrations, where students got the unique opportunity to learn from top hairstylists, getting up close and personal with the latest trends and methods, from precision cutting to colour techniques.

A highlight of the event was a live demonstration from renowned hairstylist, Heffy from Pulp Riot, who showcased her artistic skills and creative techniques. She was later joined by L’Oréal College Education Consultant, Victoria Millar, who discussed the importance of utilising social media and having an online presence, especially in the hairstyling industry to showcase your work, building up a clientele, establishing industry connections, and stay updated with the latest trends.

PJ Bacon, Deputy Head of School for Services to People at the College said “Events like this are so important for our students, as it gives them the opportunity to gain first-hand industry insights from an array of brands, connecting what they’ve learnt in the classroom to the industry.”

He continued “It’s also a great opportunity for the students to create industry links, networking with top professionals, and explore work experience and potential job opportunities too. With 70 of our students now registered to enter the Concept Hair ‘Learn of the Year’ competition!”
