Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies
During this one-year course you will explore everything from blow drying, styling and cutting hair to colouring, dressing and treating the hair and scalp, in our commercial salon, The Lounge.
You will gain insight from haircare specialists and local industry professionals with an opportunity to gain a membership that is recognised by the industry.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.
This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.
What will I study?
During this course, you will cover the following!
- Advise and consult with clients
- Blow-dry and style hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Cut ladies hair
- Health, safety and hygiene
- Set and dress hair
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Style hair with electrical equipment
How is it assessed?
You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, examinations and an internal synoptic assessment.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
You should have four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths.
What are the course fees?
If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
Once you have successfully completed this course, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing the level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (Technical).
You are also eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. As a Junior Hairdresser/Stylist, you could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include!
- commercial salons
- independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
- armed services
- HM prison service
- cruise liners
- hospitals/care homes
Additional Information
As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
