Level 3 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing

This advanced course is designed to prepare you for a successful career as an employed and/or self-employed Hairdresser/Stylist.

Based in our commercial salon, you will practise your cutting, colouring and styling skills on paying clients while providing a first class salon experience.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Blow-drying and finishing services
  • Hair colouring services
  • Hair cutting services
  • Hairdressing consultation
  • Setting and dressing services
  • Colour correction services

How is it assessed?

The assessment for this programme will be a synoptic assessment. This will take place at the end of the course, with different practice assessments throughout the year.

You are also required to build a portfolio of evidence to support what has been carried out over the period of your programme.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have achieved a level 2 Hairdressing qualification and be working towards achieiving your maths and english qualifications.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this qualification, you are eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hair Council. As a senior hairdresser/stylist, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:

  • commercial salons
  • specialist African type hair salons
  • independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
  • television, film, theatre and media
  • armed services
  • HM prison service
  • cruise liners
  • hospitals/care homes

While the main purpose of this course is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at level 4 in one or more of the following areas:

  • salon management
  • hair colour correction
  • specialist hair and scalp services
  • advanced hair styling

Additional Information

As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
