Our Animal Management courses offer an exciting pathway into this rewarding industry through full and part-time courses.

Many people dream of working with animals from a young age, while other people decide later in life that this is what they want to do. Our courses are a great starting point to kick-start your chosen career.

Whether you wish to understand more about caring for animals, take your first step towards becoming an animal care assistant, or even start your own dog grooming business, we have a course suited to you.

You will benefit

This is no average classroom – from walking with wolves in the Lake District and fundraising for local animal sanctuaries to exploring animal behaviour and wildlife rehabilitation – every day is different!

At St Helens College, you'll benefit from hands-on experience in our indoor and outdoor animal units, including our very own commercial dog grooming salon, working with over 50 different animal species including mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and other exotic creatures.

Our tutors are also experienced, industry experts and passionate about their subject too, so you can rest assured that you are learning from the very best.

You will succeed

All of our courses are independently accredited by long-established, awarding organisations with qualifications such as BTEC and NVQ. It's easier to get a job when you have a nationally recognised qualification.

You'll also have the opportunity to visit animal sanctuaries, shows and competitions such as Knowsley Safari and Dogs Trust.

You will stand out

The animal management industry has a competitive jobs market and it is important that you arm yourself with the qualifications, experience and skills required to succeed within the animal management sector.

You must be hard working, motivated and passionate about animals, in order to succeed. As well as having patience and the ability to communicate with the animals, you should also have good people skills, as working with animals often involves significant contact with people; from re-homing an animal, to teaching people to train their animals or speaking about animal welfare in public.

If you want a career you can be passionate about, where no two days are the same and you are committed to making a difference, then working with animals could be for you!

Over 3.25 million people in the UK currently working in Business & Administration roles. Millions more are working in positions that require administration skills in some respect. It's the oil in the machine.

Many sectors are now entering a critical period: the ageing 'baby boomers' are approaching retirement and beginning to reduce their hours or leave altogether. The prosperity of individuals, businesses and the nation depends, in part, on the acquisition of professional administration skills. For some organisations this means a large amount of capability and experience will leave their roles over a relatively short period of time with current administration replacement demand running at 600,000 people over the next five years. We need to get training.

Business Administration courses are delivered at both University Centre St Helens and St Helens College and include entry level qualifications and courses, apprenticeships up to degree level study.

Studying Business Administration will prepare you for a career in business or progression to many other business related courses. Students develop specialized skills and improve their capacity to analyse, communicate effectively with associates, think independently and thrive in work situations.
