By 2040, the number of people aged over 64 in Britain is expected to grow from 9.5 million to 15 million. Due to the UKs aging population, an increasing number of people will live with serious chronic illness and ultimately need end of life care.

The problems faced and support needed by people nearing the end of life is wide-ranging and this course will provide you with a good understanding of the role of a care worker throughout the end of life care process including pain management and quality of life.

This course is ideal for those who are looking to pursue a career in adult health care or individuals who are already employed in this sector and hoping to progress in their current careers.

More information

This hybrid learning course has flexible start dates throughout the year and can take up to 26 weeks to complete. However, the flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace.

You will develop the knowledge and understanding to deliver appropriate end of life care and support to both patients and their families.

Units covered include:

  • Understand how to work in end of life care
  • Care planning in end of life care
  • Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
  • End of life care and dementia
  • Understanding the role of the Care Worker in time of death
  • Understand loss and grief in end of life care

The course is completed through an online platform and assessed through a series of online assessments.

Full tutor support will be provided throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone, email, Microsoft Teams and face-to-face drop in sessions at our St Helens Town Centre Campus.

On completion you will receive a nationally recognised qualification, awarded by NCFE.

No previous qualifications are necessary. However, as this course is completed through an online platform, access to a computer or laptop is recommended and some basic computer skills are required.

Students also have access to our campus libraries including quiet study spaces and computer suites.

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding. Our hybrid learning courses may be free to UK residents who live in the Liverpool or Greater Manchester City Region. Those who live in devolved combined authorities outside Liverpool and Greater Manchester will not be eligible for course funding.

The College will carry out a simple funding assessment to check eligibility.

Please note, any learner who has received funding for the course and does not successfully complete will be liable to pay for the course fees.

This course provides fantastic progression on to further hybrid learning courses depending on your career aims. Take a look at our full range of hybrid learning courses here.
