Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity

During this course, you will gain practical skills and an understanding of the sport and physical activity sector. A work placement within a sports setting will boost your experience, career prospects and university application.

Based in our gym, sports facilities and the great outdoors, you will learn everything there is to know about anatomy, physiology, fitness testing, exercise prescription, sports performance and nutrition.

More information

The course will start in September and will take two years to complete. The first year of this course is the level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (one year).

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Fitness testing
  • Exercise prescription
  • Sports performance
  • Sports nutrition

You will also undertake a work placement within a sports setting to enhance your skills and experience and boost your CV and if applicable, your university application.

You will be assessed through a combination of practical observations, written and oral questions, assignment work, short tests, work experience and work books.

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or maths.

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2026), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to University Centre St Helens, to study FdSc in Exercise, Health and Fitness, validated by University of Chester.

Alternatively, you may decide to study a degree such as physiotherapy or exercise science at another university.
