Painting and Decorating Skills

This short, leisure course is designed for anyone wishing to try their hand at painting and decorating and will provide participants with an introduction to this craft.

You will have the chance to learn from professionals, who have a wealth of experience from working in the industry.

The course will start on Tuesday 24th February 2026 and will take three weeks to complete. You will attend college on Tuesday evening, from 6.00pm – 9.00pm.

The course takes place at our STEM Centre, Technology Campus, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

Topics covered include:

  • Decorative finishing
  • Marbling and graining
  • Painting with rollers and brushes
  • Introduction to internal and external angles for wallpaper

There is no formal assessment. The course aims to increase your knowledge and skills and the main emphasis is to come and enjoy!

There are no formal entry requirements. All you will need is commitment and enthusiasm.

You may be eligible for funding if you have not previously completed similar funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed – FREE
  • If you are employed – £30
  • If you are not eligible for funding – £100

You may want to develop your skills further and apply to study for a recognised accredited qualification.
