Maths plays a vital role in modern life and is an important ‘life skill’ in itself. The effective application of number is of key importance in the workplace.

Maths qualifications are increasingly needed for entry to academic, vocational and professional courses – ranging from the sciences to financial services, nursing and paramedical courses.

The course has various start dates throughout the year and will take up to 17 weeks to complete. There is an option to study either during the day or in the evening.

It is also recommended that you undertake an additional 1.5 hours per week of self-study.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

The syllabus will develop a broad range of practical mathematics which will relate to everyday life. The following areas will be covered:

  • Statistics and number
  • Problem solving and reasoning
  • Geometry and algebra

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

You will sit an assessment at the end of your course.

You do not require any other qualifications, however, entry to this qualification will be based upon the results of an initial and diagnostic assessment that you will be required to undertake upon application.

This course is free to study providing you do not hold a grade 4 or above at GCSE level.

Gaining a GCSE in maths can lead to several progression opportunities. You may decide to undertake further study either in further or higher education.

Generally this qualification will enhance your CV and improve your employability prospects.
