Leadership for Impact Leadership Essentials for the Community Sector

Whether you are new to volunteering or you already work in the sector and are interested in progressing into a leadership role, this course provides an ideal introduction to help you succeed in the voluntary sector!

The short course is designed for individuals who are eager to set up their own community activities, as well as for volunteers currently working within the sector who are interested in advancing into leadership and management roles. It also serves as a valuable refresher for those who wish to update and strengthen their knowledge and skills.

The course has the following start dates and will take 6 weeks to complete.

  • Monday 15th September 2025, 10.00am – 12.00pm
  • Monday 3rd November 2025, 1.00pm – 3.00pm

You will attend one two-hour session per week, from at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

You will study the following topics:

  • Introduction to Leadership and Community Projects
  • Business Planning and Strategic Planning
  • Project Management Essentials
  • Charity Finance: Finance for Non-Financial People
  • Building Successful Charity Partnerships
  • Review and Future Planning

The course is assessed through an end of course knowledge test.

There are no formal entry requirements, all you need is a keen interest in the voluntary sector.

You may be eligible for funding if you have not previously completed similar funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed – FREE
  • If you are employed – £30
  • If you are not eligible for funding – £180

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the Level 2 ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management, or the Level 2 Principles of Team Leading hybrid learning course.
