More information

This course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend on a Tuesday evening, from 5.00pm – 7.30pm.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Maintaining health and safety in the barbershop
  • Client consultation for barbering services
  • Creatively cutting men’s hair
  • Creating facial hair designs

You will be continually assessed throughout the course, completing all of your assessments on a commercial client (paying customer). Your commercial client could be a family member or a friend.

You will also build an evidence-based portfolio of work, to capture the practical skills and experience that you have developed on your course.

You do not need any formal qualifications to be able to study this course, however you must have a keen interest in the subject and several friends and family who are willing for you to practice on.

A placement in a barbershop would support you in completing the practical assessments for the qualification

The course fee is £411. This is a full cost course meaning that there are no fee discounts available.

There are a range of career opportunities as a Junior Barber in a commercial barbershop.

You may also choose to develop your skills further by undertaking more advanced qualifications.
