Level 2 Entry to the Uniformed Services

During this course, you will train and prepare for a career in the armed forces or other uniformed service of your choice.

While exploring different aspects of your physical fitness, you will have the opportunity to participate in competitive sports or adventurous activities, undertake voluntary experience and understand service routine.

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Investigating employment in the uniformed services
  • Exploring aspects of physical fitness
  • Developing team working and problem-solving skills
  • Showing an understanding of health, safety, and hygiene
  • Service routine
  • Following uniformed services routine

In addition to the above, you will also choose two optional units from the following:

  • Participating in competitive sports
  • Participating in adventurous activities
  • Exploring aspects of telecommunications
  • Assisting in motor vehicle maintenance
  • Exploring equality and diversity
  • Working as a volunteer within a chosen organisation

You will be assessed through a combination of assignments, projects, case studies, practical exercises and tests.

You should have 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and/or maths.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your course when you join us.

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2025), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. Once you have successfully completed this course, you will be prepared to tackle intensive training in the armed forces or another uniformed service.

You will also have the opportunity to advance your skills and knowledge by progressing on to the level 3 Extended Diploma in Entry to the Uniformed Services.
