Level 3 Award in Small Electrical Energy Storage Systems

This course is designed to upskill qualified electricians, providing a pathway into the renewables sector and a recognised qualification across the construction sector.

The course will provide a detailed insight and understanding of Electrical Energy Storage Systems and allows the candidate to competently and safely carry out the design, installation and commissioning of EESS.

This course is also linked and aligned to the Solar Photovoltaic course.

The course has various start dates throughout the year and will take 3 days to complete.

This course will take place at our STEM Centre Campus, Pocket Nook Street, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

Topics covered include:

  • Know the key documentation and legislation in relation to design and installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and electrical energy storage systems (EESS)
  • Work safely with EESS
  • Understand the characteristics of EESS, components and architectures
  • Understand design and installation considerations for EESS
  • Test, commission and handover of EESS
  • Understand the use of micro-generation and EESS as part of prosumer’s electrical installations

You will be assessed by a range of practical and online assessments.

You will need to have achieved the below qualifications to complete the course:

  • IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, 3rd Edition
  • IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition: BS 7671:2018 (latest amendment) Requirements for Electrical Installations

You should have one of the below qualifications:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)  
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (5357)
  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification

Equivalent and historical qualifications, or an ECS Gold Card (Installation Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, or Domestic Electrician) issued by the JIB or SJIB, may also be accepted.

The total cost of this course is £500.

On successful completion of this course, you will have developed the knowledge and competencies to install and maintain Small Electrical Energy Storage Systems.

Completing this course can lead directly into employment opportunities in the growing green technologies market within the renewable energy sector, offering learners the chance to develop supplementary skills and knowledge to a high standard recognised by the industry.
